Holi – Festival of Colours

Holi is a popular Hindu festival celebrated primarily in India and also in other parts of the world. It is a joyful and vibrant festival that promotes unity, community and love.

It is a time for forgiveness , letting go of past grievances and beginning with a new sense of joy and happiness. People seek forgiveness, mend broken relationships and move forward with a sense of renewal and positivity.

Holi is played in the spring season which is a period between end of winter and advent of summer a season of blooming flowers, new beginnings and fresh starts. Playing with colours during Holi is a way to celebrate the beauty and vibrancy of nature , it also induces the growth of bacteria in the environment as well as in the body. When holika is burnt temp. of the nearby area raises around 50 deg to 60 deg Celsius.  and when people do parikrama the heat coming from the holika dahan kills the bacteria from the body and cleanses it.

In some parts of the country after hoilka dahan people put ash on their forehead and to promote good health they mix Chandan with mango leaves and flowers and consume.

In ancient times, when people started playing holi the colours used by them were made from natural sources like turmeric, neem , palaash etc. the playful pouring and throwing of colours made from these natural sources has a healing effect on the human body.

Le le ke kuch rang prakriti se udhaar, Jaise, suraj se laal, Aasmaan se Neela, Hariyali se hara, Gulab se gulabi, Khelein prakriti ke rangon ke sang holi

The science of using natural colours like turmeric is to cleanse the body and remove unwanted accumulation on the skin .

The festival is also celebrated as thanksgiving for good harvest . It symbolizes the victory of good over evil , truth over falsehood and justice over injustice because on this day the evil king Hiranyakashayap was killed by Narsimha, the half male and half lion incarnation of lord Vishnu and saved Prahlad who was his devotee.

Holi is also the celebration of the eternal and divine love of Radha and lord Krishna which is celebrated by playing with flowers and colours. Playing with colours , dancing , singing and feasting during Holi brings joy and happiness in peoples life . It is a time to let loose have fun and enjoy the company of loved ones .

In recent times there are many organizing teams who organize events for people to enjoy the festival to its fullest with colours, fun games, music, dance, sweets with special refreshing drink “Bhang and Thandai”.

So forget all your pains and worries get drenched in colours of this festival, let the Holi spread the message of peace and happiness.

May god gift you all the Colours of life this Holi
