NAVRATRI – Nine Nights Nine Roop
The celebration of Navratri the feminine Divinity, Referred as Goddess Durga (The Shakti). Where Nava means NINE and Ratri means NIGHT, Nine nights when Goddess Durga shakti is worshipped in 9 forms. each form represents a power, which we should imbibe within us.
It’s a celebration of victory. Good over evil Truth over untruth Knowledge over ignorance Right over wrong the story associated with Navratri is the battle that occurred between Goddess Durga and Mahishasura.
Mahishasura was granted immorality by lord Brahma and had been told that he could only be defeated by a women. He attacked the Trilok earth. Heaven and hell but the gods were unable to defeat him. Finally Lord Brahma, Lord Vishnu, Lord Shiva together created Goddess Durga. Who finally defeated Mahishasura. She fought for 15 days and the demon kept changing his forms to confuse Goddess Durga then finally when he took the form of a buffalo Goddess Durga killed him with her trishul.
During these nine days people worship the nine forms of goddess Durga each form holds significance and represents different aspects of the Goddess.
“Navratri ka ye utsav saal mein doh baar aata hai Chaitra(spring) season aur shardiye (autumn) season mein. Kahaa jaata hai Bhagwan Ram pehle vayakti aur Raja thee jinohne nau dinoh ka upvaas Rakha tha Devi Maa Durga ka Ashirwad paane ke liye , tabhi se kaafi log 9 dinoh ka vrat rakhte hain.”
On the first day of Navratri Goddess Durga is invoked into a kalash with full vedic rituals along with chanting of mantras . It is also known as kalashsthapana. Only after this Navratri worship fasting begins.
Let us pray to Goddess Durga to give us as much power as she acquires to protect us from the invisible rakshasas on earth.
